The Scores
The Restaurant
Toa66 opened in Bandra in 2023 and rapidly accumulated the kind of word-of-mouth that precedes a restaurant's formal recognition by the wider dining press. The kitchen is built around a Thai tasting menu of eight to ten courses, prepared with an approach that references the royal Thai cuisine tradition: complex spice pastes ground in-house, coconut milk fresh-pressed daily, proteins sourced from specific Thai suppliers where Indian alternatives cannot replicate the flavour profile.
The chef has trained in Bangkok and brings to Toa66 a vocabulary that Mumbai diners receive largely as a revelation — that Thai food extends well beyond green curry and pad thai, into preparations of extraordinary delicacy and layered spicing. The signature gaeng kua pla — a red curry of line-caught fish with kaffir lime and fresh galangal — arrives in a lacquered bowl that requires a moment of appreciation before tasting.
The 66 Linking Road address is on the upper floor of a converted building, accessed by a staircase that opens into a room designed in deep teak wood, soft brass lamps, and hand-painted silk panels depicting the riverscapes of central Thailand. Eighteen covers at most. The beverage programme pairs Thai-influenced cocktails — lemongrass martinis, butterfly pea gin — with a focused selection of white Burgundy and Alsace wines that complement the spice register.
Elite Traveler named Toa66 among the best restaurants in Mumbai. The combination of architectural ambition, culinary seriousness, and Bandra's energy as a neighbourhood produces a dining experience that Mumbai's sophisticated dining community has quickly adopted as one of its own.
Best Occasion Fit
Impress Clients: A Thai tasting menu at this level is a surprise in Mumbai — the kind of unexpected seriousness that signals curatorial intelligence to a client who has eaten everywhere. Toa66 reads as discovery.
First Date: Eighteen covers, complete intimacy, and courses that arrive slowly with explanation. The architecture is designed for extended evenings, not efficient throughput. The cocktail programme begins the evening with intention.
Birthday: Request the corner window table for a birthday booking. The kitchen will acknowledge the occasion with a personalised petit four sequence at the close of the meal.
What Guests Say
Toa66 is the most surprising meal I have had in Mumbai in years. The gaeng kua with line-caught fish is prepared with the kind of patience that Bangkok's best restaurants apply to spice paste preparation. I had no idea Mumbai had this.
