About Ruca Malen
Bodega Ruca Malen Restaurant is the vineyard-pairing dining room of Bodega Ruca Malen — a 1998-founded boutique Malbec winery in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo (25 kilometres south of Mendoza city), owned by the French Bordeaux-trained Heriard Dubreuil family — and is one of Argentina's longest-running wine-country pairing-lunch programmes. Chef Lucas Bustos runs the kitchen.
The format is a five-course Argentine fixed menu with five Ruca Malen wine pairings, served exclusively at 12:30 lunch. Signatures include a hand-cut Andean lamb empanada with the entry-level Estate Malbec; a slow-roasted Patagonian lamb shoulder with the Reserva Malbec; an Argentine ribeye with the Kinien Malbec; a Mendoza-pear tart with the late-harvest Torrontés. The pairing format is the canonical Argentine wine-country lunch experience.
The wine programme is the Ruca Malen estate vertical — five vintages across the day's flight, plus a small selection of comparative Mendoza Malbec smallholders for the curious diner. The cellar is open to view from the dining room.
The dining room sits in a glass-walled pavilion at the centre of the Ruca Malen vineyards, with a 270-degree view of the Andes panorama (Aconcagua visible 100 kilometres west on a clear day). The lunch experience is the canonical wine-country setting in Mendoza.
Why It's Perfect for Proposal
Ruca Malen is the proposal-grade lunch in Mendoza wine country — the vineyard-front pavilion with the Andes view is the conversation, the five-course pairing format is the Argentine wine-country canon, and the lunch-only format means a half-day occasion. Book the corner two-top closest to the western Andes view.
