About Alfiero

Alfiero is the brasserie restaurant of Hotel Bertelli — the more relaxed sister of Il Gallo Cedrone, opened in 1960 alongside the original hotel and named for the Bertelli patriarch — and is the village's most reliable classic-Trentino dining room. The space is the original 1960 dining hall, with hand-carved larch panels, a wood-burning fireplace at the back, copper-bottom pans hung from the rafters, and eighty covers across two stone-walled rooms.

The menu is the canonical Trentino list. Hand-rolled canederli (the Trentino dumpling) with smoked speck and Trentingrana cheese; slow-cooked Trentino lamb with juniper and Polenta taragna; a wood-fired pizza menu that uses the family's own milk for the mozzarella; the famous 'strudel di mele del Trentino' — the regional apple strudel that uses a 1960 family recipe and runs daily through the season; a Vezzena cheese trolley with twelve Trentino mountain-cheeses presented tableside.

The wine list runs heavily to Trentino — Ferrari and Rotari sparkling, Foradori for natural reds, Manincor and Hofstätter for Alto Adige whites — with a tightly chosen Italian-national section. Glass pours start at €6 and the by-the-glass programme is the most generous in the village.

Service is family-run — the Bertelli siblings rotate the floor, the captains have worked the property for years, and the kitchen pacing accommodates the leisurely Trentino dinner format. Alfiero is the dining room that visiting Trentino farmers, Verona and Milan-based weekenders, and the Bertelli's Il Gallo Cedrone diners on their off-night all use as a default lunch and dinner address.
