About Mizumi

Mizumi is the Japanese restaurant on the ground floor of Wynn Macau, on Rua Cidade de Sintra in the NAPE district of Macau. It is the only Japanese restaurant in the city to hold two Michelin stars, and also carries a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating. Helmed by executive chef Hironori Maeda, it is built as a multi-counter showcase of Japanese craft, with separate sushi, tempura and teppanyaki experiences under one roof, plus one of Macau's largest sake collections to match.

For the rest of Macau's fine dining, compare the three-star French cooking at Robuchon au Dome, the Cantonese rooms at Jade Dragon and The Eight. For the category, see our Japanese guide and sushi guide.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is a three-in-one showcase of Japanese technique. At the teppanyaki counter the signature is Kagoshima Wagyu tenderloin, seared on the iron plate and finished simply with sea salt, wasabi, black pepper and an onion gravy on the side; the sushi counter runs Edomae-style nigiri and an omakase drawing on Sushi Mizumi; and a tempura counter completes the set. Set menus start from around MOP 890 for teppanyaki and MOP 1,090 for sushi, with a deluxe teppanyaki menu near MOP 1,890 and a full omakase reaching MOP 2,400 before service. The produce is flown-in and premium, the plating precise, and the sake list one of the deepest in Macau — this is a top-tier splurge, and priced like one.

The Room

The room is plush and theatrical in the Wynn manner, with private counters and a sense of hushed luxury that suits the two-star billing. Each counter gives a different show — the teppanyaki chef working the plate in front of you, the sushi master building nigiri to order — and service is precise and attentive throughout. It is a destination dinner inside the casino resort, well suited to a business celebration or a milestone evening. Reservations are essential, dress is smart, and it is worth deciding in advance which counter you want, as each offers a distinct experience.

Best for Impress Clients

The two-star kitchen, the premium produce and the resort setting make Mizumi a strong room in which to impress clients or close a deal, and an indulgent anniversary dinner in Macau.

Not for

Not for a casual or budget meal — Mizumi is a two-Michelin-star, top-priced Japanese restaurant inside a luxury casino resort, built for a special-occasion splurge.
