About Jamavar
Jamavar opened on Mount Street in 2016 as the London extension of the Leela hotel group's Indian-dining programme. It won its Michelin star in 2017, retained it through a kitchen reorganisation, and remains one of the three or four highest-ranked Indian restaurants in Mayfair.
Chef Surender Mohan's menu works across regional India — a northern kebab section, a southern dosai programme, a Goan seafood track — and the tasting menu format is a genuinely good way to introduce a sceptical diner to the breadth of the cuisine beyond the tandoor-and-curry stereotype. The cocktail list leans into Indian ingredients (tamarind, curry leaf, mango) without gimmicking.
The Mount Street address and the polished interior — richly coloured walls, modern Indian artwork, leather banquettes — mean the room reads as genuinely Mayfair rather than Indian-in-Mayfair. Service is quietly professional, pricing is firmly Mayfair.
Best Occasion Fit
Jamavar is the current Mayfair default for Indian client dinners. The Mount Street location gives it the hotel-adjacent walkability that business dinners benefit from; the Leela heritage reads correctly to Indian clients; and the range of the menu means you can host a mixed group without having to steer everyone toward the same set of dishes.
