The Experience
Spice is the Indian-owned pan-Asian restaurant on the Senggigi main road — the commercial strip that runs north from Senggigi's central roundabout — and is the dining room that Senggigi-based expats and long-term-stay visitors return to most frequently outside their resort restaurants. The space is a converted garden compound with an open-front dining room, a central wood-fired tandoor visible from every seat, and outdoor garden seating under a canopy of frangipani trees. The feel is neighbourhood-restaurant rather than tourist-venue.
The menu is Indian-led: the tandoor programme (naan, roti, kulcha, and a half-dozen tandoori mains) is the headline, with the butter chicken, rogan josh, dal makhani, and biryani covering the expected ground at a quality that is notably higher than the price point suggests. The pan-Asian chapter — a competent set of Thai, Chinese, and Malaysian dishes — extends the range for groups with mixed preferences. Vegetarian options are extensive (roughly a third of the menu) and vegan options are marked clearly.
The tandoor-made naan is, by consensus of the Senggigi expat community, the best bread on the island — the tandoor is fired to proper high temperature, the dough is made in small batches through the service, and the breads arrive hot within five minutes of ordering. The garlic naan and the kulcha are the recommended orders. The mango lassi programme is also a standout, served in tall glasses with a light cardamom note.
No reservations required for weekday evenings; weekend evenings (Friday–Sunday) and high season are busier and a WhatsApp booking is recommended. The IDR 300K–600K per person range covers a full Indian dinner with two breads, one curry, rice, and a lassi. Credit cards, cash, and Indonesian e-wallets all accepted. The restaurant is a 10-minute walk from the Sheraton and a 5-minute taxi from the Senggigi roundabout.
Why it's perfect for Team Dinner
For a team dinner of six to twelve in Lombok — a work group, a family reunion, a wedding-party rehearsal — Spice is the most reliable answer in Senggigi. The shared-dish Indian format works perfectly for groups, the pricing is reasonable, and the garden seating accommodates larger parties without fuss. For a first date where both parties want a relaxed neighbourhood-restaurant register rather than a sunset-terrace production, this is the right choice.
