About Strelec
Strelec ('the Archer') occupies the medieval Archer's Tower of Ljubljana Castle — the hilltop fortress that dominates the Slovenian capital from above. The dining room is reached via the castle funicular from the riverside, and the panoramic windows look out over the entire baroque Old Town.
Chef Igor Jagodic has run the kitchen since 2010 and has earned Michelin Plate recognition (and 17 points from Gault&Millau, one of the highest scores in Slovenia) for a Modern Slovenian programme built around micro-seasonal sourcing from across the country. Expect plates that move from the Adriatic coast at Piran through the Karst limestone country, the Vipava wine valley, and the Alpine north of Bled — often within a single tasting menu.
The format is a tasting menu only at dinner (a five-course at €145 and a longer eight-course at €185 in the recent rotation), with an excellent shorter set menu at lunch (€85 for three courses). The wine programme is one of the best showcases of Slovenian wine in the country — the orange wines of the Vipava, the Refošk reds of the Karst, plus serious Italian and French support.
The room takes around forty covers across two interconnected salons in the medieval tower, with stone walls, vaulted ceilings, and panoramic windows. Service is technically very good and warmly knowledgeable about the wine programme. Closed Sunday and Monday; the funicular runs until 23:00 in summer.
