About AFTR

AFTR opened in June 2023 at Nazorjeva ulica 2, on the same premises as chef Jorg Zupan's previous restaurant, Atelje — which earned the first Michelin star ever awarded to a Ljubljana restaurant in the 2020 inaugural Slovenia guide. Zupan deliberately reopened with a new name and a more relaxed concept while preserving the kitchen's technical level.

The cooking is Modern European with strong Adriatic and Alpine references — Zupan's training across Italy, Slovenia and the wider region surfaces in plates that move comfortably from Karst pršut and Triglav cheese to Piran sea bream and Vipava wine reductions.

The format is a tasting menu (a four-course at €95 and a longer six-course at €135 in recent rotations) with an excellent paired wine programme (Slovenian-led with strong Italian support). The lunch service is a more concise three-course set, useful for a first-date alternative to the longer evening commitment.

The room takes around forty covers across an intimate dining space and a small chef's counter overlooking the open kitchen. Service is conversational rather than formal, and Zupan himself is often visible at the pass. Closed Sunday and Monday.
