About L'Arbre

L'Arbre sits on Rue du Maréchal Foch in Gruson, a village in the rural belt twenty minutes east of central Lille on the Bouvines plain. The restaurant occupies a country house surrounded by lawns and old trees — the dining room looks out into greenery on three sides, and there is a substantial garden terrace for warm-weather service.

The Michelin star has been with the restaurant for years. Florian Choquet took the kitchen in October 2023 after Benoît Bernard's long tenure, bringing a slightly lighter, more Loire-influenced register. Expect dishes built around northern French produce — pigeon from the Pas-de-Calais, asparagus from the Picardie sands, freshwater pike from the Marque — handled with restraint.

The format is set menus at dinner (a four-course at €95 and a seven-course at €125 in the recent rotation), with à la carte available at lunch — a €55 three-course business lunch is the value play of the metropole at this level. The wine programme leans Loire and Burgundy, with serious cellar depth on northern sparklings.

Service is unhurried and warm — country-house pacing rather than urban precision. The drive from Lille-Centre is twenty to twenty-five minutes; the village has limited taxi pickup, so book a return car or budget for Uber. The room closes Sunday evening, Monday and Tuesday.

L'Arbre is the room you book when you want to show someone how the locals celebrate. The Bouvines plain setting (twenty minutes east of Lille, the same plain where Philippe-Auguste won France's medieval crown) gives the night a quiet sense of occasion; the twentieth-century country-house architecture is generous without being grand; and the kitchen, since Florian Choquet took over in October 2023, is genuinely cooking at the top of its tier.
