About Wakuden Muromachi

Wakuden, founded in Kyoto in 1870 as a teahouse, now operates a constellation of restaurants across Japan — and the Muromachi flagship is the company-dinner kaiseki room of choice for visiting Japanese executives and international groups. The dining floor runs sixty covers across a main banquet hall and ten private tatami rooms accommodating four to twenty guests each.

The seasonal kaiseki menu changes by month — twelve courses across two and a half hours, anchored by Wakasa Bay sashimi, a seasonal hassun platter, a charcoal-grilled course, a Kyoto-vegetable simmered course (Wakuden's signature), and a closing rice dish. The cooking is technically classical; the kitchen runs at a slightly more democratic price tier than the three-star institutions, which is why it works for groups.

Private rooms are the operational heart — each accommodates eight to twenty guests, with kneeling-and-floor-cushion seating standard but western-style chairs available on request for international groups. The team are deeply experienced with corporate hosting (toasts, awards, milestone speeches) and will time the menu pacing to the agenda.

Bookings four weeks ahead via the Wakuden website or Kyoto hotel concierge. Lunch is the more accessible option; group dinners typically anchor the full evening. Dress smart-casual to business; jackets welcomed. Service is bilingual, formal but warm, and read on the group.
