About Bar Acuda
Bar Acuda is the chef-driven Spanish-tapas institution of chef Jim Moffat — opened in 2007 in the Hanalei Center on Kuhio Highway, the central village artery of Hanalei — and is Kauai's most reliable serious chef-driven kitchen. For over fifteen years, Bar Acuda has been at the top of Kauai restaurant lists thanks to its creative tapas-style dishes featuring fresh, local ingredients from nearby fishermen and organic farmers.
The cuisine is contemporary Spanish tapas with deep Kauai-regional sourcing. Signatures include a hand-cut Kauai-fisherman tuna tartare with passionfruit; a slow-cooked Kauai-pork belly with mango glaze; a hand-rolled Kauai-shrimp tagliolino; a wood-fired Hanalei-pasture lamb shoulder; the famous 'Bar Acuda chocolate cake' for the dessert course.
The wine list runs to 200 references with deep Spanish coverage and a respectable American-Pacific section.
The dining room and Hanalei-village terrace together hold seventy-two covers. Service is family-run.
Why It's Perfect for First Date
Bar Acuda is the easy first-date room in Hanalei — the chef-driven Spanish-tapas register is genuinely distinctive, the fifteen-year institutional pedigree settles the credibility question, and the village setting is conversation-worthy. Book the corner two-top.
