About Restaurace Promenáda
Promenáda is the room every local recommends when a visitor asks for one dinner that is not at a grand hotel. Set in a slim 18th-century townhouse on Tržiště, three minutes from the Sadová Colonnade, the dining room seats about thirty across two intimate floors — exposed beams, candle sconces, white linen, small windows onto the spa promenade.
The cooking is modern Czech with a generous classical base. House-cured boar carpaccio with smoked cream and pickled spruce tips. South-Bohemian carp prepared three ways. A signature beef cheek slow-braised in Pilsen lager with potato-celeriac purée. A short, focused vegetarian path that is unusually well-considered for the country.
The wine list is built around Moravian reserves and a careful Austrian section, with a useful by-the-glass programme so that two guests can drink properly across four courses without committing to a bottle. The desserts are the family's particular pride — a still-famous chestnut and dark-chocolate parfait, and a poppy-seed soufflé that needs to be ordered when you sit down.
Dinner with wine lands around 1,800 CZK per guest, which by Karlovy Vary grand-hotel standards is genuinely good value for cooking at this level. Service is warm, multilingual and unhurried — everything you want from a first dinner together.
Why It's Perfect for First Date
Promenáda is what a first date in Karlovy Vary should feel like — not the marble and chandeliers of the Pupp, but a small candlelit townhouse where the food is serious enough to talk about and the room is quiet enough to actually hear each other. Ask for one of the small upstairs tables by the window onto Tržiště.
