About 1587 Prime

When Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce announced they were opening a steakhouse at the Loews Kansas City Hotel in partnership with Noble 33 hospitality group, the expectation was a celebrity vanity project. What arrived was something considerably more considered. 1587 Prime is a 10,000-square-foot, two-story restaurant that operates with the theatrical conviction of a team that knows exactly what it wants to be — and has the resources and talent to execute it without compromise.

The design by Cooper Carry architects layers stadium metaphors into every element without tipping into obvious kitsch. Guests enter through a narrowing tunnel that evokes the walk a player makes entering a stadium — at its end, a refrigerated meat display illuminated from within becomes the light at the end of the tunnel. The restaurant opens into a space of warm lighting, bold finishes, and an energy that feels like the room itself is performing. Green velvet and leather banquettes edge with a creamy stripe nod to the gridiron; maroon marble floor inlays resemble footballs; brass yard-line markings frame the host stand. The 20-seat bar and live music stage dominate the ground floor. A dramatic staircase leads to private dining rooms on the second floor that are among the best in Kansas City for business entertainment.

The beef program is serious. Prime beef, American Wagyu, and true Japanese A5 Wagyu are sourced with the care of a kitchen that understands its central product. The 40-oz Wagyu Tomahawk at $345 is the signature statement; the six-ounce Missouri-sourced prime petite filet at $59 provides genuine value at this level. Beausoleil oysters, hamachi crudo, and shrimp cocktail with house-made sauces frame the beef program well. The cocktail list — built around the rolling martini cart that moves through the room — is a genuine program, not an afterthought.

Live performances — musical acts that change with the schedule — animate the ground floor without overwhelming the dining room on the second level. This is a restaurant that has figured out the very difficult problem of providing entertainment as an enhancement to dinner rather than a distraction from it.

Best Occasion: Close a Deal

1587 Prime is the most effective power dining room in Kansas City for one specific reason: it communicates abundance and ambition without apology. The decision to book here is itself a statement — it says that the host understands Kansas City, has chosen the most prominent room in the city, and is prepared to spend at a level that signals serious intent. The second-floor private dining rooms are genuinely private and impeccably serviced; the Wagyu program allows hosts to demonstrate knowledge and generosity simultaneously. For visiting executives, sports industry figures, and anyone whose client relationship benefits from being shown the most impressive room a city has to offer, 1587 Prime is the only answer in Kansas City.
