About Alto Restaurant & Bar
Alto is the restaurant that answered a specific question Jakarta needed answering: where does a visiting CEO with thirty minutes and a reservation preference for 'somewhere glamorous' go? The Four Seasons' twentieth-floor Italian restaurant, bold red lacquered walls, a penthouse-style terrace, chef Marco Violano running a kitchen brigade of Piedmontese veterans, has been the definitive answer since 2016 and has only improved with age.
The cooking is precise, regionally anchored Italian with careful Indonesian ingredient sourcing. Hand-rolled agnolotti filled with braised beef cheek; tagliolini with black truffle in season; a whole-roasted branzino finished tableside; a limoncello semifreddo that ends every dinner on a cleanly remembered note. Pasta is made fresh in the adjacent glass-walled pasta lab, which is visible from the main dining room and doubles as private-event space.
The room is the draw. Tables are arranged to ensure every seat has a floor-to-ceiling view. The terrace, heated in Jakarta's rare cool evenings, air-conditioned otherwise, is the single most photographed dining space in the city and the proposal industry has noticed. Alto hosts an average of four proposal dinners per week; the team is practised and discreet.
The bar, adjacent, runs an Italian aperitivo program with live jazz Friday and Saturday from 9pm. Dinner-then-drinks is Alto's most natural sequence and the transition between rooms is effortless. The bar is also the first-date answer for visitors who want a short, visually spectacular evening without committing to a full tasting menu.
Why It's Perfect for Birthday
A birthday here photographs beautifully, the view, the red lacquer, the pasta theatre. The Four Seasons choreography does the celebration without needing to be asked.
