About Yuk Sou Hin

Yuk Sou Hin is the restaurant Ipoh locals point to when they want to convince a visitor their city takes Chinese fine dining seriously. It is the signature dining room of The Weil Hotel — downtown, six floors up — and the room is quietly magnificent: red lacquer panels, circular moon gate windows, private rooms for twelve and eighteen, a central dining area that seats eighty without feeling crowded.

The applewood-smoked duck — carved tableside, served with house-fermented hoisin and gossamer pancakes — is the dish that travels. The XO king prawn dim sum and the claypot abalone rice are the two other orders repeat diners build their meal around. Dim sum lunches run Friday through Sunday and the pricing is forgiving: a good lunch for two with tea lands below MYR 250.

For a team dinner, Yuk Sou Hin's round-table private rooms are the easiest answer in Ipoh. The Palace Room (capacity sixteen) comes with its own lazy Susan, hidden service door, and acoustic privacy that matters if business is being discussed over dinner. Menus can be agreed in advance by the banquet team. Corkage is MYR 80 per bottle for wine brought in; the in-house list is respectable but not extensive.

Service is warm and well-drilled without being fussy. The restaurant has held its quality through the hotel's ownership transitions, largely because Chef Kok has been at the pass since 2012. It remains, quietly, the single best traditional Chinese table in Perak.
