About Paradise Biryani

Paradise Biryani is the original Hyderabadi biryani institution — founded in 1953 in Secunderabad (the twin city to Hyderabad's north), expanded into a multi-outlet chain across the subcontinent, and still anchored by the original Sarojini Devi Road outlet in Secunderabad that was the first location. Across six decades, the Paradise biryani recipe has been the single most-imitated biryani preparation in India; no serious biryani conversation in Hyderabad is complete without reference to it.

The signature dish is the Hyderabadi chicken biryani — basmati rice layered with chicken, yogurt, fried onions, saffron, and the distinct Paradise spice blend, then sealed in a dum pot and slow-cooked. The mutton biryani is the purist's order; the chicken is the more accessible entry point. The biryani is served with mirchi ka salan (chili-and-peanut gravy) and raita (yogurt sauce), and the proportioning of those two accompaniments to the rice-and-meat is part of the house signature.

The original Sarojini Devi Road outlet is the one to visit — the spin-off branches across the country have varied in quality, but the Secunderabad original remains the reference point. The restaurant has expanded across two levels at the original site; the ground floor is the canteen service, the upper level is the sit-down restaurant with table service. Both produce the same biryani; the ground-floor service is faster, the upper-floor is more comfortable for a sit-down dinner.

No reservations — this is walk-in dining, and the peak-evening wait at the Sarojini Devi original runs twenty to thirty minutes at 8pm on a weekend. Go at 7:00pm to avoid the peak, or at 10:00pm for a quieter service. Cash is preferred; the newer outlets accept cards but the original sometimes has slow card-machine handling. For a team trip arriving in Hyderabad, a meal at the original Paradise is part of the canonical city itinerary.

Why It's Perfect for Team Dinner

Paradise is the team-dinner-or-solo-dining reservation for a visiting team that wants the single most culturally significant meal in Hyderabad at an accessible price point — no ceremony, no booking, just the canonical biryani at the original location. For a work team arriving in Hyderabad, a 7:00pm arrival at the Sarojini Devi original is the booking; order the mutton biryani for the purist, the chicken biryani for the newcomer, the mirchi ka salan as the shared starter.
