About Mediteraneo

Mediteraneo occupies a high-walled stone courtyard just above Pjaca, reached by a steep lane that most tourists never find. The garden — citrus trees, grape vines overhead, candles on every table, white stone underfoot — is one of the prettiest rooms on the Dalmatian coast, and the kitchen has always understood that a setting this good deserves cooking that doesn't compete with it.

The menu reads like a grown-up Mediterranean classic. Beef carpaccio dressed only with olive oil, lemon and rucola. Grilled octopus with beans. Scampi buzara, shellfish in its own juices with garlic and white wine. A simple osso buco of Hvar lamb. Pasta is handmade daily; the seafood risotto is among the best on the island.

Service is Croatian-direct — unhurried, fluent, unperturbed by the fact that you arrived thirty minutes late. Wine is a tight Croatian list with a handful of Italian ringers; pricing is fair, even in August.

A dinner for two with a bottle lands at 140–180€. Not cheap by mainland standards, but deliberately positioned below the waterfront rooms. Mediteraneo has held that positioning, without slipping, for more than twenty years.

Why It's Perfect for First Date

Mediteraneo is the first-date room par excellence. The garden does the heavy lifting — climbing vines, candlelight, enough privacy between tables for a real conversation — and the menu is short and confident enough that no one ends up trapped in a twenty-minute debate. It is the Hvar restaurant couples come back to on subsequent trips.
