The Room

Bramwell Tripp opened The Pit Room on Richmond Avenue in 2017 — a serious central-Houston Texas-barbecue counter dedicated to the proposition that the inside-the-loop neighbourhoods needed a destination-grade barbecue programme. Texas Monthly has assigned a Top 50 Texas BBQ designation.

The format is intentionally casual: counter ordering, picnic-table seating, paper trays, no reservations.

The Food

The brisket — fourteen-hour post-oak smoke — is the order on every visit. The jalapeño-cheddar sausage, the pulled pork, and the smoked turkey run as the menu's centre.

Beer programme runs Texas craft. Service is counter-and-runner.

Best Occasion Fit

Team Dinner: The Pit Room handles team lunches better than most central-Houston barbecue counters.

Solo Dining: The picnic-table format welcomes the solo diner.

First Date: The Pit Room is a casual first-date alternative.
