About Manoir des Impressionnistes
Manoir des Impressionnistes is a small boutique hotel on the Côte de Grâce — the wooded ridge above Honfleur with views back across the Seine estuary toward Le Havre — and the in-house restaurant occupies the property's original 19th-century manor house. The hotel was a private residence for most of its history; the dining room sits in what was once the family salon, with original parquet, an interior staircase, and tall windows facing the garden.
Chef Vincent Tardieu cooks Norman hotel cuisine at the considered end of the genre — scallops with apple-fennel slaw and Calvados glaze; turbot in salt crust with herb butter; Norman milk-fed veal with morels; a tarte fine aux pommes that has become a regional benchmark. The four-course tasting menu rotates seasonally and represents better value than ordering à la carte; the kitchen runs a separate vegetarian tasting on request.
The dining room is small — thirty seats, candlelight, white linen, the garden visible through tall windows — and the courtyard garden opens for summer service. The wine list is thorough Burgundy and Bordeaux with a smaller Loire section; the apple-juice and Calvados programme is one of the best in town, with house-aged Calvados served on a small trolley before the cheese course. Service is hotel-trained, multilingual, and unobtrusive.
Manoir des Impressionnistes is a quieter alternative to La Ferme Saint Siméon a kilometre away — comparable view, more intimate scale, less expensive, and arguably more romantic for a couple's dinner. The hotel itself has fifteen rooms and offers a serious half-board package that locals quietly recommend for short Honfleur weekends. The dining room is a destination booking on its own.
Why It's Perfect for Birthday
Manoir des Impressionnistes is a milestone-birthday dinner with a built-in atmosphere. The garden table at sunset, the view of the estuary, the four-course tasting paced over two hours, and a hotel room twenty metres away when dinner finishes. For a celebration in Honfleur that wants discretion rather than spectacle, this is the most considered option.
