About Morning Glory Signature

Trinh Diem Vy, known across Hoi An simply as Ms Vy, runs this three-floor restaurant on the An Hội riverfront, and the upstairs balcony holds what is arguably the best seat in town: a direct line to the lantern-lit Japanese Bridge across the water. This is the polished sibling to her original street-food room, with the same recipes given a quieter, more composed setting.

The cooking is contemporary Vietnamese rooted in Hoi An's own dishes rather than a generic national menu. Ms Vy has more than thirty years in the trade and wrote the 2011 Morning Glory cookbook, and the restaurant carries a Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice award. The Kitchen

Ms Vy learned in her parents' Hoi An restaurant before building the Taste Vietnam group, which now runs ten kitchens and a cooking school in the town. Her instinct is to keep the local canon intact rather than reinvent it, so the menu reads like a guide to what Hoi An actually eats.

The white rose dumplings, the translucent bánh bao bánh vạc the town is known for, are the dish to order first; the cao lầu, with its well-water noodles, pork and crisp croutons, is the second. Sizzling beef with black pepper and lemongrass-wrapped grilled meat round out the table. Address is 41 Nguyễn Phúc Chu on the An Hội side of the river, phone +84 235 3926 930, with mains from 120,000 to 350,000₫. For the regional context behind these dishes, see the wider fine-dining guide, and compare the tasting route at Nephele.

The Room

The restaurant climbs three floors with full river frontage, and the balcony tables are the ones to request. Sound is a warm hum indoors and softer on the terrace, where the river takes the edge off. Lighting is low and lantern-warm after dark, flattering and unhurried. Tables are generously set rather than packed, dress is no-rules resort-casual, and the upper floor doubles as private event space for larger parties.

Best for First Date

Book the balcony for a first date because the view does half the work: the Japanese Bridge glowing across the water, lantern light, and a river breeze. The shared small plates keep the table relaxed and give you something to do with your hands, and the no-rules dress code means neither of you is overthinking it. Reserve a riverfront window a week out. See more first-date restaurants.

Not for

Not for anyone after a quiet, exclusive table. This is a popular three-floor restaurant on the busiest stretch of riverfront, and the ground floor turns briskly at peak.

Frequently Asked

Is Morning Glory Signature worth it?

Yes, especially for the balcony. Ms Vy's kitchen plates Hoi An's own dishes, the white rose dumplings and cao lầu, with more care than the tourist strip around it, and the upstairs view of the Japanese Bridge is the best on the river. Mains run 120,000 to 350,000₫, so the food is fair value; you are paying a small premium for the setting, and it is worth it after dark.

How hard is it to book Morning Glory Signature?

Book about a week ahead for a weekend riverside table, and two to three weeks ahead if you want a specific balcony or upper-floor window. The restaurant is popular and the ground floor fills with walk-ins, so a reservation is the only way to lock a river view. Call +84 235 3926 930 or book through the Taste Vietnam site.

What should I order at Morning Glory Signature?

Start with the white rose dumplings, the bánh bao bánh vạc that Hoi An is known for, then the cao lầu with its well-water noodles, pork and croutons. Add the sizzling beef with black pepper and the lemongrass-wrapped grilled meat to share. The dishes are built for the table, so order broadly and pass everything around.

What is the dress code at Morning Glory Signature?

There is no dress code. This is relaxed riverside dining in a tropical town, so resort-casual is the norm, light fabrics and comfortable shoes for the lantern-lit streets afterwards. Smart-casual will not feel out of place on the balcony, but nothing more formal is needed. Dress for the heat rather than the room.

Is Morning Glory Signature good for a first date?

Yes, if you book the balcony. The Japanese Bridge view, the lantern light and the shareable plates make it one of the easier romantic tables in Hoi An. Reserve a river window a week ahead. For other options, see the Hoi An dining guide.
