About Theodosi
Theodosi sits on the small Korai Square in the modern town just south of the Venetian walls — the lunch quarter for Heraklion's lawyers, doctors and shipping professionals. The room is a confident contemporary bistro, with pale-wood floors, leather banquettes, an open kitchen along one wall, and a small front terrace that fills nightly through the warm season. It opened in 2018 and within two years became the working lunch reservation of choice for the city's professional class.
Chef Theodosis Veneris runs a tight modern Greek-Mediterranean card. Octopus carpaccio with capers and lemon; risotto with Cretan graviera and saffron; sea bass with fennel and ouzo butter; aged lamb chops with rosemary and confit garlic; a galaktoboureko reworked with Cretan thyme honey and pistachio. The four-course bistro tasting at €38 is among the best-value serious lunches in the city.
The wine list — about two hundred references — runs strong Cretan and Santorini sections with a serious Naoussa Xinomavro programme and a small but well-curated French row. By-the-glass rotates fifteen bottles, mostly Greek; markups are fair; and the sommelier is happy to pour serious tastings for solo diners at the kitchen counter.
Service is fluent in English and German, runs at an Athens-trained register, and handles serious lunch business with a confidence that the older Heraklion restaurants have not modernised into. The room fills weekday lunches with locals — the highest compliment an urban restaurant can earn in a tourist city. It is the most reliable working dinner in Heraklion.
Why It's Perfect for Close a Deal
Theodosi is the deal-closing lunch in Heraklion. The square-facing terrace has the right amount of public visibility for a relationship lunch; the bistro tasting is exactly long enough for a serious conversation without overrunning the afternoon; and the wine list handles a celebration order without theatre. For a small business meal where the city itself is part of the brief, this is the most appropriate working room in town.
