Heaneys is Tommy Heaney's Pontcanna bistro — a modern British restaurant opened in 2019 on Romilly Crescent, the leafy Cardiff street that runs at the heart of the city's wine-bar district. Heaney is a Great British Menu alumnus (Wales, 2019) and a previous head chef at the late Whitebrook under Chris Harrod; the restaurant is the clearest example in the city of a mid-tier chef-driven room doing modern British cooking at genuine city prices.

The menu rotates seasonally and keeps its options short. A Pembrokeshire crab tart with lemon-and-dill butter has been the opening staple. The Welsh Black beef fillet with bone-marrow mash and red-wine jus runs year-round. A slow-cooked suckling-pig shoulder with apple-and-mustard relish is the autumn-winter main. Desserts are strong — a brown-butter and miso tart with crème fraîche ice cream has been cited across UK food press.

The wine list is short (80 bins), credible, and priced widely. English and Welsh sparkling open the list; Burgundy and Loire run mid-range; the house red recommendation (a biodynamic Languedoc) stays under £40. The cocktail bar runs a solid pre-dinner programme; the coffee is Heart & Graft from Manchester.

The room fits forty-five covers across two adjoining rooms — candlelit in the evening, bright at weekend brunch. Service is Welsh-warm and informed. The Pontcanna neighbourhood setting makes the whole evening walkable to the next drinks stop.
