Occasion: Proposal
I proposed in the Makaron garden on an autumn evening when the oak trees were turning and there was a quality of light through the leaves that I have been trying to describe ever since and cannot. The food was extraordinary — the cured pork belly course was the best thing I have eaten this year — but what I remember most is the silence of the garden, the way the service team seemed to understand the occasion without being told, and the particular expression on my partner's face when I asked. Makaron is a place where the important things feel possible. I cannot recommend it highly enough for anyone who wants to ask the most important question in a setting that understands gravity.

I discovered Makaron by accident — a friend's recommendation for a Sunday lunch that turned into a five-plate evening with the full wine pairing and a conversation that lasted until the restaurant gently indicated it was closing.
