About Dei Frati
Dei Frati sits on Piața George Enescu, a small square two minutes' walk behind the Town Hall. It is a family-run Italian restaurant in the proper sense — the Rossi family cook, serve, source the wine, and run the floor — and the cooking has quietly climbed to become, by general consensus, the most consistently excellent contemporary kitchen in the city. The Tripadvisor ranking (currently #13 of over 400 restaurants in Brașov at 4.7 stars) reflects a genuine reputation rather than a paid placement.
Fresh pasta is the backbone of the menu — taglialoni al tartufo nero with Alba truffle shaved at the table, pappardelle with a slow-cooked wild-boar ragù, ravioli filled with ricotta and spinach served with a brown-butter-and-sage finish. The mains run to grilled fish from the Black Sea and Italian meat cuts, and the pizza — cooked in a wood-fired oven visible from the dining room — is one of the few in Romania worth travelling for.
The wine list is Italy-heavy as you would expect, with proper vertical coverage of Barolo and Barbaresco alongside a Veneto section (Amarone, Valpolicella Ripasso) and a twenty-reference Romanian list for guests wanting to taste local. The sommelier will happily bring two or three glasses to the table for pacing across a three-course meal.
Dei Frati is consistently fully booked on Friday and Saturday evenings. Weekday reservations are still walk-in-possible; lunch (12:00–15:00) is the easiest sitting. The back dining room, reachable through the kitchen corridor, is the quieter of the two and holds twelve for a private booking.
Why It's Perfect for First Date
Italian fine dining, a family-run room with character, a serious wine list, and the best fresh pasta in Transylvania — Dei Frati is the First Date room in Brașov. The scale is intimate, the cooking reliably impressive, the prices fair, and the adjoining square (George Enescu) is one of the prettiest small piazzas in the city for a post-dinner drink.
