Oleana
Vegan menu: on request — the city's best-known vegetable tasting
Oleana is Boston's clearest answer to the vegan question. Ana Sortun and Nik Mastalerz cook arabesque Eastern-Mediterranean meze at 134 Hampshire Street in Cambridge, and Sortun, a James Beard Best Chef Northeast winner, built her name on vegetables long before it was fashionable. The kitchen runs one of the few genuine vegetable tasting menus in the city, with meze like whipped feta, za'atar bread with almond skordalia and white-bean piyaz. Some dishes lean on dairy and honey, so name vegan rather than vegetarian when you book and the kitchen will steer the meal. It is the most rewarding plant-led seat around Boston.
