Lava Lava Beach Club

Cold toes in the sand, mai tai in hand, Pacific sunset over the shoulder — the Big Island's most joyfully unpretentious beach dining, done with enough Hawaii Regional conviction to justify the visit.

Lava Lava Beach Club — Hawaiian / American, Big Island (Hawaii)

Lava Lava Beach Club delivers exactly what the name promises — a beachfront bar and restaurant where the dress code is barefoot and the mai tai arrives within three minutes of sitting down. The Hawaii Regional menu brings genuine sourcing ambition to what would otherwise be a purely atmospheric operation.

The local fish preparations — ahi poke, fresh-caught mahi-mahi, and the rotating Pacific catches — use Big Island sourcing with the same rigor as the serious upcountry restaurants. The beach setting doesn't require a compromise on ingredient quality.

The mai tai program is the bar's serious contribution — proper rum selections, fresh lime and orgeat (no pre-made mix), and the seasonal tropical fruit additions that the Big Island's agricultural diversity makes available.

The sunset from Lava Lava's beach — the Pacific turning gold and pink, the lava rock in the foreground, the sound of the surf — provides the most complete version of the Hawaii restaurant experience that the island offers.

Best Occasion: Great for Birthdays

Barefoot on the beach, mai tais for the group, fresh Pacific fish, and the Big Island sunset. The birthday that the Pacific Ocean provides.

Best Occasion: Perfect for Solo Dining

The beach bar stool, the mai tai, fresh ahi poke, and the Pacific sunset. Solo dining's most specifically Big Island afternoon.
