About Lan Chov Khorko Miteanh
Lan Chov Khorko Miteanh is one of Battambang's most-recommended cheap-eat addresses. A simple, no-frills Chinese-Khmer kitchen on Street 121 with a street-food-stall-style open kitchen at the front of the shop where boiling pots and woks operate continuously through service. The kitchen is run by an ethnic-Chinese-Cambodian family that makes hand-pulled noodles and hand-formed dumplings to order, and the result is a noodle-and-dumpling experience noticeably better than the equivalent Cambodian street-food found elsewhere.
The signature dishes are the hand-pulled noodle preparations and the hand-formed dumplings. A bowl of beef-broth hand-pulled noodles ($2.50). The noodles stretched and cut by the cook in front of you, served in a clear beef-bone broth with thin-sliced beef brisket, scallion, fried garlic, and a small portion of pickled mustard greens. A plate of pork-and-chive dumplings ($3.00 for ten pieces). The dumplings hand-folded at a small worktable visible from the dining area, then either steamed or pan-fried. Side dishes (pickled vegetables, soy-and-sesame dipping sauce, small Khmer-style spring rolls) run $1-2.
Beyond the noodles and dumplings, the kitchen has a small Khmer-cuisine menu: bai sach chrouk grilled-pork-with-rice ($2.50) at breakfast service; lok lak beef ($4) at lunch; nom banh chok rice-noodle-and-fish-curry ($2) at breakfast. Most regulars order from the noodle-or-dumpling menu and add one Khmer dish; the bill rarely exceeds $7 per person.
The room is functional. Twenty-two seats across small bench-and-stool setups inside the shop and a few streetside bench tables. Walk-ins always work; the queue at busy hours (12-1 lunch peak; 6-8pm dinner peak) runs five to ten minutes. Cash is preferred but cards are accepted. English menus are present and the staff speak basic functional English; the picture-led format makes ordering trivial.
Best Occasion Fit
Solo travellers. Bench seat with a noodle bowl and dumpling plate, fifteen-minute meal, $5 bill, the proper Battambang local lunch. For team dinners with food-curious colleagues, the small-plate sharing format works for four. As a low-stakes first date for someone visiting Battambang, the open-kitchen-and-cheap-eat format is unfussy and conversation-starting.
