About Disfrutar

Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas ran the creative engine at elBulli through its final decade, and Disfrutar, opened in 2016, is where that lineage reached its own summit: three Michelin stars and the number one spot on the World’s 50 Best list in 2024. The name means enjoy, and the instruction is meant literally.

A meal here runs around 30 courses over three hours, and the techniques arrive as tricks that turn out to be arguments: the multispherical pesto with pistachios, the panchino doughnut that bursts with caviar and cream, the frozen gazpacho that eats like weather. The famous living table, la mesa viva, hides courses inside the furniture itself for the handful of diners who book it. Nothing at this level is this fun anywhere else on earth.

The tasting costs €315 with pairings from €140, startling value against Paris or Tokyo peers, and the dining room’s Mediterranean ceramics and light keep the theatre grounded. Reservations open a year ahead on the restaurant’s own site and vanish; the waiting list genuinely moves.

The Room

White Catalan brick, ceramic lattice and a corridor of light that runs from the street to an open kitchen of forty cooks. Tables are spaced for privacy, sound sits at a happy hum, and dress is smart casual; Barcelona does not do stiff. Ask for the tables facing the kitchen line if you want the ballet, or la mesa viva if you booked the full performance.

Why book it, occasion by occasion

Match the night to the room and the bill stops mattering. These occasions fit Disfrutar best.

Birthday

For the birthday that wants wonder, not candles

No room on earth delivers surprise at this density: 30 courses of misdirection means the whole meal behaves like a gift being unwrapped. Tell the team it is a birthday and the kitchen folds the celebration into the menu’s tricks rather than bolting a dessert plate onto the end. Book the year ahead window the week your date releases.

Impress Clients

For the client worth a year’s notice

A reservation here is proof of planning no expense account can fake: seats release twelve months out and the world fights for them. The meal gives a table of executives three hours of shared astonishment, which loosens more deals than any steakhouse gravity. The pairing at €140 keeps the bill honest for the level.

Anniversary

For an anniversary that earns a pilgrimage

Couples who mark years in restaurants eventually arrive here. The room is warm, the pacing generous, and the menu’s playfulness turns the meal into a shared game rather than parallel eating. Request the kitchen facing tables and let the sommelier drive; the cellar’s Catalan depth is underrated.

What to order

The menu decides itself; your choices are the table, the pairing and one act of courage.

  1. The multispherical pesto

The trio’s signature technique at its purest: pasta, pesto and pistachio rebuilt as bursting spheres. The dish that explains the crown.

  2. The panchino

A fried doughnut that conceals caviar and cream. One bite, total recalibration of what pastry is for.

  3. La mesa viva, if you can get it

The living table turns the furniture into the menu. It books out first and costs more; a once in a decade table for a once in a decade occasion.

  4. The wine pairing over bottle hunting

From €140 the sommeliers run Catalan and Spanish depth against 30 moving targets. Trust them; no bottle keeps up with this menu.

Not for: literal minded eaters or anyone on a schedule. Thirty courses of misdirection over three plus hours is the entire point; there is no short version and no à la carte.

Questions diners ask

Is Disfrutar worth it?

Yes, without hedging. Three stars, the 2024 World’s Best title and a €315 ticket that undercuts every peer city make it the strongest value at the summit of world dining. If surprise driven tasting menus annoy you, stay away; everyone else should plan the trip around it.

How hard is it to book Disfrutar?

The hardest ticket in Spain. Seats open on the restaurant’s own site up to twelve months ahead and prime dates go instantly; the waiting list does move, so register and watch. Lunch midweek is the realistic entry, and solo seats appear more often than pairs.

What does Disfrutar cost?

The tasting is €315 per person, pairings start at €140, and la mesa viva carries a premium. Dinner for two with the entry pairing lands near €950, which against Paris or Copenhagen equivalents is the bargain of the three star world.

What is the dress code at Disfrutar?

Smart casual. Barcelona keeps even its temples relaxed: collared shirts, no jackets required, comfortable shoes for a three hour sitting. The room cares how you eat, not what you wear.
