About Anfiteatro Restaurante
Anfiteatro is the modern showcase restaurant inside the Escola de Formação Turística e Hoteleira de Ponta Delgada — a training restaurant, in theory, but in practice one of the three most serious kitchens in the Azores. Chef Luís Sebastião runs a tight brigade and a tasting menu that reads like a map of the archipelago: tuna from the Faial lines, alfonsino from the drop-off, beef from São Jorge, pineapple from the São Miguel glasshouses.
The dining room is purpose-built on the upper floor of the Portas do Mar complex, glass-walled, looking out over the Ponta Delgada marina with Mount Brasil visible beyond. Tables are widely spaced, conversation is possible, and the service — led by a sommelier who may know the Azorean wine list better than any in Portugal — is warm but precise. The six-course tasting with wine pairings is the room's flagship.
Because it is attached to the hotel school, the kitchen is not afraid to experiment, and the value for what arrives on the plate is remarkable. A full tasting with pairings sits well under €100; à la carte lunch is under €45. For business travellers, it is the closest thing Ponta Delgada offers to a power table with a view.
Why It's Perfect for Close a Deal
To Close a Deal: Anfiteatro's widely spaced tables, glass-walled marina view, and serious wine programme give you a room that rewards quiet focus. The tasting menu is enough theatre to feel celebratory without ever slowing a conversation, and the sommelier can bring out a Pico white that will genuinely surprise a wine-literate client.
