The Bagh

An acre of waterbody gardens, five private dining rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, and a kitchen that plates modern Indian alongside Mexican and Italian without apologising for either. Amritsar's most ambitious room.

The Verdict

The Bagh is Amritsar's most architecturally ambitious restaurant and, by industry consensus, one of the best-designed restaurants in India — it has collected design awards (including 'India's Best Designed Restaurant') in its decade of operation. The property sits on an acre of landscaped grounds with multiple constructed waterbodies and gardens; the five private dining rooms each face a different part of the garden through floor-to-ceiling windows.

The cooking is deliberately multicultural. The Indian programme is modern — small-plate kebabs, refined North Indian gravies, a serious biryani — but the restaurant also runs a full Italian section (the wood-fired pizzas are the best in Punjab), a Mexican programme that extends beyond the tourist-standard basics, and a pan-Asian carte. The kitchen opened a social-café and bar extension (Tepah by The Bagh) in the city centre in 2025; the original Lawrence Road flagship remains the proposal-and-celebration room.

The wine list is one of the most ambitious in Punjab outside the hotel group. The cocktail programme is serious; the bartenders have been with the restaurant for years. Dinner with a shared bottle runs ₹4,800 per person. The restaurant handles large groups (twenty to forty) in the garden pavilion with real ease, and private dinners for four to six in the inner rooms.

Why it works for Proposal

For a proposal in Amritsar — or a major milestone birthday, or a client dinner where the host wants to demonstrate that the city has a serious contemporary dining scene beyond the pilgrimage dhabas — The Bagh is the unambiguous answer. The private garden-view rooms are the best dinner-for-two settings in the city. The cooking will match the occasion. And the photograph of the floor-to-ceiling-window garden view is the image that will anchor the memory.
