Palace Saloon — American / Bar Food, Amelia Island
The Palace Saloon has operated continuously since 1903, making it Florida's oldest bar — a claim that the building's mahogany bar, pressed tin ceiling, and the hand-painted murals depicting Amelia Island's history make entirely credible.
The food is bar food of the honest variety — shrimp baskets, burgers, and the bar bites that the Palace has been providing to the Fernandina Beach drinking community for over a century. The shrimp, of course, comes from the harbor.
The cocktail program has evolved to include craft preparations alongside the classic formats — the Fernandina Shrimp Mary (a Bloody Mary garnished with local shrimp) is the house signature and the most historically appropriate drink available.
The Palace functions as Fernandina Beach's living room — the space where the community marks occasions, debates history, and receives visitors. Spending an hour here is a more complete introduction to Amelia Island than any museum.
