The Verdict

Harrat is the all-day signature dining room of Banyan Tree AlUla — the resort's answer to the question of where to eat when you don't want the full Thai-menu commitment of Saffron. The room is deliberately decorated with locally made handicrafts from rugs and earthenware collected from the AlUla community, and the materials and textures are the same sandstone and acacia wood that the Banyan Tree villas are built from.

The menu is a broad Arabian-Mediterranean carte. The mezze section is excellent — the hummus and baba ghanoush are reference-quality, the manakish and the muhammara rich and unapologetically spiced. The fresh seafood from the Red Sea coast is grilled over the open flame at the centre of the room. The pasta section is a concession to the international resort crowd but well-executed. A Bedouin-tent alternative is available on request — a private dining experience set up in the valley dunes with a storyteller and traditional dishes — and is one of the resort's more striking experiences.

Prices are more accessible than at Saffron or at Maraya Social. A full dinner runs around SAR 400 per person. The kitchen handles dietary restrictions fluently and the service caters to families as easily as to couples — Harrat is the resort's social centre, which is its correct function.

Why it works for Team Dinner

For a team dinner — the kind where a travel company or a client group has booked the entire resort for a three-night AlUla immersion and wants a single shared dinner somewhere that scales — Harrat is the right answer. The long communal tables can be pushed together, the mezze-then-grill format is perfect for the group setting, and the acoustic environment of the room accommodates lively conversation without straining.
