Nihat's Fish Restaurant

Nihat's has been on the harbour road since 1961 — the restaurant Alanya treats as its default special-occasion fish house. Now run by Nihat Çakmak's grandson, the kitchen still works the way it did half a century ago: fish delivered from the boats below, ice-bedded in the window, grilled on charcoal in a kitchen visible from the street.

The room is classical Mediterranean harbourside — blue-and-white table linens, white-jacketed waiters, a terrace that runs along the water and fills quickly after sunset. A small indoor dining room handles cooler evenings. Service is the kind of unhurried, courtly Turkish hospitality that does not exist at the package-tour end of the town.

The menu is built around the counter. You choose your fish from the ice; the waiter weighs and quotes it at the table. Expect daily variations: sea bass, bream, barbun (red mullet), sometimes locally caught kalkan (turbot). The mezze run is substantial — pan-seared octopus, grilled calamari, stuffed vine leaves, eight cold plates — and a full dinner often peaks with the fish as almost an afterthought.

A dinner for two with mezze, a shared grilled sea bass, a bottle of Chamlija and raki lands at around 3,800–4,800 TRY. It is the easiest recommendation in the city for a polished but not fine-dining evening.

Nihat's is the Alanya birthday room. The terrace faces the harbour lights, the kitchen happily produces a candle on a plate of baklava, and the staff are comfortable with a group of eight choosing fish from the counter together. Service pacing suits a long table that wants to linger. The value per plate, for the quality of fish and room, remains one of the stronger deals on the Turkish Mediterranean coast.
