The Verdict

Earthen Oven sits atop The Gateway Hotel on SG Highway, Ahmedabad's primary business corridor. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame a panoramic view of the Sabarmati River and the city's western skyline — at twilight, the golden light on the river makes this the most visually dramatic hotel dining room in the city. The room itself is warm and unhurried: dark wood, tandoor-lit aromas, and the measured attention of a service team that has been in place long enough to know which tables the regulars prefer.

The kitchen specialises in North Indian and North West Frontier cooking — the cuisine of the tandoor. Seekh kebabs, murgh malai tikka, raan (slow-roasted leg of lamb), and dal makhani simmered for eighteen hours are the signatures. The bread selection is the best in Ahmedabad: roomali roti, missi roti, and garlic naan made to order. The biryani — available on advance request — is a serious production.

For the business traveller, Earthen Oven solves the classic problem of where to take clients who want Indian food without the unpredictability of a local canteen. This is North Indian cooking at hotel standard, cooked by a team that has spent years refining the repertoire. The wine list is modest but adequate; spirits are well-stocked and the bar opens before the kitchen.

Expect INR 1,800 to 2,500 per person with drinks. Window tables on the river side book quickly on Friday and Saturday evenings; specify when reserving. Dress code is smart casual minimum, and the room's regular clientele — Ahmedabad's senior business and real estate community — tends to dress accordingly.

Why It Works for Close a Deal

This is Ahmedabad's default close-a-deal room: a formal hotel restaurant with a river view, attentive service, and food serious enough to hold a conversation over. Gujarat's corporate class has been using Earthen Oven for client entertainment for years. The location on SG Road puts it within ten minutes of the major business parks and tech campuses.
