The Verdict

Bellevue is the Oberoi Amarvilas' all-day dining room — breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner — with the single architectural feature nothing else in Agra matches: a long colonnaded terrace that faces the Taj Mahal across the hotel gardens with no intervening buildings or trees. The view is unmediated. The distance reads as exactly one kilometre.

The menu is deliberately dual. The Indian side is regional — biryanis from Hyderabad, thalis from Rajasthan, dosa and curries from the south. The international side leans Mediterranean with a European breakfast spread that is among the best in India: house-smoked salmon, Swiss-style röstis, a live pancake station, and a juice bar that uses the estate's own seasonal fruit. Afternoon tea runs from 4pm to 6pm daily and is the only time non-guests can reasonably secure a Taj-view table.

Bellevue is the only restaurant in Agra that is designed for the entire arc of the day — the 5am sunrise Taj visit refuelled with pastries and masala chai, the return for a proper breakfast, a lunch before the afternoon car to the Fort, an early dinner before the overnight train back to Delhi. Prices are significantly higher than the Agra average and reflect the view rather than only the food, which is, to be honest, reliable hotel-Indian more than signature.

Why it works for Proposal

For a proposal in Agra, there is one correct answer and it is Bellevue at sunset. The hotel will decorate the table on request. The Taj behind you turns from cream to pink to gold over the course of fifty minutes. The champagne list is serious. Ask for the corner table at the eastern end of the terrace — it has the widest uninterrupted view of the mausoleum's dome.
