El Poblet

El Poblet is Quique Dacosta's Valencia city-centre flagship — the urban counterpart to his three-star destination in Dénia, 90 minutes' drive south. The restaurant occupies a first-floor salon in a nineteenth-century building directly across from the Mercado Central, and the dining room's tall sash windows open onto a view of the Santos Juanes church and the Lonja de la Seda UNESCO site. Head chef Luis Valls has run the kitchen since 2014 and was promoted to two Michelin stars in the 2023 Guide.

The cooking is a Valencia-grounded version of Dacosta's molecular-classicism — seafood, rice, and citrus worked through modern techniques. Signatures include a cuttlefish in its ink with saffron and smoked paprika, a langoustine in a light seaweed broth, and a rice "de senyoret" that updates the Valencian classic with cockles, prawns, and a seven-stock broth. The tasting menus run at €125 (eight courses) and €190 (twelve courses).

The wine list, managed by sommelier David Rabasa, emphasises Spanish coastal whites and a deep Valencia-region (Utiel-Requena, Valencia, Alicante) selection. Pairings are available at both tasting lengths.

The dining room is smaller than most two-star rooms — 32 covers in a single long salon — and the service is unusually warm for a rising-star kitchen. Valls is frequently in the dining room between courses.

El Poblet is Valencia's best birthday dinner room for parties of two to eight. The elegant first-floor salon, the view of the Mercado Central and Santos Juanes church, the two-star cooking, and the personal attention from Luis Valls combine for an evening that feels celebratory without being pompous. The kitchen will prepare a dedicated dessert with 48 hours' notice. Request a window table in summer — the light at 20:30 is one of Valencia's finest indoor settings.
