About Maison FLO (Foulang)

A Qing-dynasty general's family once kept this house; today it plates bouillabaisse. Maison FLO — Foulang (福楼) to local diners — occupies a century-old residence tied to the family of Zeng Guofan, commander of the Xiang Army, at 37 Guangfu Dao in Tianjin's former Italian concession.

It is the Tianjin sibling of Maison FLO Beijing, the French brasserie Groupe Flo opened in 1999 that collected Best French Restaurant in Beijing honours for over a decade. The Tianjin room was among the first genuinely French tables in the city, and it still trades on that founding seriousness.

The Kitchen

The card is the classical brasserie canon, executed without irony: Burgundy-style escargot (¥72), house foie-gras terrine with fig chutney, tuna-avocado tartare under a crustacean cream, French onion soup with Emmental. Mains peak with a saffron-frothed bouillabaisse loaded with scallop, sea bass, tiger prawn, mussel and cod (¥176) and an Australian beef tenderloin (¥288); fresh oysters arrive from France twice a week. Budget roughly ¥250–300 a head before wine.

The cellar is the deepest French list in the city, whites through champagnes, and the floor staff are trained to pair by dish — useful in a town where the alternative is guessing. Desserts stay in canon; the chocolate fondant over candied orange peel is the closer to trust.

The Room

The ground floor recreates a 1920s Parisian Art Deco café — crystal chandeliers, marble floors, glass partitions — inside the bones of the heritage house, with a small veranda onto an enclosed square that mutes the city to a rumour. The cellar level runs darker and more romantic, all inlaid brick and two-tops; it books out for Valentine's far ahead. Live piano some evenings; linen, lamplight and table spacing all pitched at the long dinner.

Best for Closing a Deal

Book it for closing a deal: a private-feeling heritage room, a wine list with obvious gravitas, and a menu conservative enough that nobody at the table is negotiating with their food. For the celebratory follow-up dinner, the cellar level is the city's most discreet room. Compare the dumpling-house institution Goubuli for the opposite register.

Not for

Not for chasing Tianjin's street-food energy — Goubuli baozi and Erduoyan fried cakes live elsewhere; this room is starched-linen French and priced accordingly.

Frequently Asked

What kind of restaurant is Maison FLO Tianjin?

A classical French brasserie run by Groupe Flo, the group behind Maison FLO Beijing (opened 1999). The Tianjin room serves the traditional canon — escargot, foie-gras terrine, bouillabaisse, steak — inside a century-old heritage residence in the Italian Style Town.

What should I order at Maison FLO?

The bouillabaisse (¥176), built on scallop, sea bass, tiger prawn, mussel and cod, is the signature main; the Burgundy escargot (¥72) and foie-gras terrine open the meal properly. Beef eaters should go straight to the Australian tenderloin (¥288). Oysters land from France twice a week.

How much does dinner at Maison FLO cost?

Plan on roughly ¥250 to 300 per person before wine — starters run ¥48 to 98 and mains ¥136 to 288. The French-led cellar can move the bill in either direction, with the staff trained to pair by the glass.

Where is Maison FLO in Tianjin?

At 37 Guangfu Dao in the Italian Style Town, Hebei District — a restored century-old residence linked to the family of Qing general Zeng Guofan, a short walk from Jianguo Road metro on Line 2. Reservations on +86 22 2662 6688.

Is Maison FLO good for business dinners?

Yes — it is our top close-a-deal pick in Tianjin. The heritage setting reads as effort, the Art Deco room keeps conversation private, and the classical menu and deep wine list are safe ground for any table of counterparties.
