The menu centers on seafood, as it should in a village perched above the Pacific. The signature miso-marinated local black cod at $42 has earned attention from the Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Times, and not without reason. It is a dish that perfectly captures the Mendocino Coast's flavor profile: clean Pacific protein handled with culinary intelligence borrowed from Japan and executed with Northern California confidence. Wild scallops at $22 offer a more accessible entry point to the same philosophy.

Beyond the seafood, Trillium's kitchen produces flavorful salads from garden-fresh ingredients, a range of vegetarian preparations that take their cue from the same organic farms that supply the coast's finest kitchens, and tantalizing desserts that match the care of the savory courses. The wine list skews local — Mendocino County and neighboring Anderson Valley appellations represented with genuine knowledge.

Dinner service runs seven nights a week from 5 to 8:30 PM. The patio, sheltered and heated, is one of the most pleasant places to eat in the village when the summer fog holds off. Prices are stratospheric relative to what you might find at a comparable quality level in a larger city, as they are across Mendocino — but the quality is real, and the setting is irreplaceable.
